Kaleidoscope House
This interactive play environment was created by Laurie Simmons and Peter Wainwright for Bozart Toy by Artists, in 2000. As the transparent “modernist” colored walls overlap each other, their hues and values change in a kaleidoscope illustration of complementary colors.
The house is modeled after Schroder House in Utrecht, Netherlands, which was designed by architect, Gerrit Rietveld in 1924. Rietveld belonged to the DeStilj movement. As part of the movement, primary colors are used predominantly. All rooms have portable partitions and doors that give access to the outside.
